Being a Software Engineer and a North Indian, my mind always duels on the Bangalore Vs Delhi-NCR debate. It may sound funny but I feel there are two fictious characters in my mind each supporting Delhi and Bangalore. I call them Ms Deni and Mr. Bang quite representative of the cities they support. One fine day on my way back home the battle of words started again between the two of them and I thought of penning down the conversation.
Mr. Bang starts the conversation, Bangalore makes you fall in love with its weather. Sometimes it gets to be a long tiring day and those packed traffic jams. But then all of a sudden you get kissed by the gentle breeze and pearl like rain-drops, phew! You get refreshed and forget how cruel the day has been. The weather in Bangalore acts like a cooling balm for all the headaches of the day.
Ms Deni nods sarcastically and speaks, if you had been in Delhi, then due to better infrastructure esp. the roads, you might not have struck in the traffic jam on the first place and reached home in time and spent a relaxed evening.
Mr. Bang looks confused and simply nods and agrees as Ms Deni starts her daily countdown of the goodies Delhi-NCR offers- Better infrastructure, more traffic rules, close proximity to my home town, less cost of living, good to taste North Indian food, festive joys and she sighs lots more.
Mr. Bang listens patiently and then a wicked smile comes on his face, he's got a point-- He tells Ms Deni about his acquaintance who used to cry as she was made a victim of eaves teasing everyday in public buses , railway stations, market places and where not. And I am sure many girls including you Ms Deni would agree to it.
Mr. Bang asks Ms Deni have you or any of your friends ever experienced eave teasing in Bangalore. Ms Deni thought for a while but her answer as Mr. Bang has expected was a plain “No”
Mr. Bang continues lots of my female friend’s infact feel much safer in Bangalore than in Delhi. And I think its because of the increased percentage of educated women in Bangalore, who know their rights and don't feel shy to sell vegetables on a vendor trolley or to become a bus conductor. The fact remains that when it comes to women safety, education and empowerment Bangalore definitely scores over Delhi.
Ms Deni laughs and exclaims you are talking about women empowerment have you forgotten about the women leaders of Delhi like Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Mrs. Sheila Dixit etc. Mr. Bang gets irritated and says Oh! Come on we are not discussing politics lets talk about real life in which you and me live.
Mr. Bang says talking about women education and empowerment brings me to think about IT industry. Many people won’t agree but I am sure many won’t deny as well and I personally too feel that being the IT Den the work culture in Bangalore is far more professional than in Delhi.
Ms Deni was getting hard hit by Mr. Bang's comments and then she knew it was time for her master stroke. She asks Mr. Bang, Is Life all about work and being comfortable? What about family and personal life?
Mr. Bang replies Bangalore does offer numerous weekend gateways and is situated close proximity to various popular holiday destinations.
Ms Deni smiles again and says But the fact that remains is that on weekdays when you reach home late at night due to the hour and half long traffic jam(which probably got extended today by another half an hour due to the rains) you hardly get time to spend with your family. And when you finally lie on the bed ready to call off the day, you are left wondering, Is life all about work & work & work? You can't attend your close friend's wedding, can't reach sometimes on a funeral, can't share in person your parent's joys and sorrows. Is it all they brought you up for?
Mr. Bang could see the winners gaze coming out of Ms Deni 's eyes and thought of reminding her of their last trip to Delhi.(On their last visit to Delhi, Mr. Bang had promised Ms Deni that he would try and look at Delhi with a new approach) You forgot what we saw, let me refresh your memories. You didn’t like the Delhi airport as compared to its Bangalore counterpart. When we went to have lunch; to your surprise you didn’t like it all. Then we were struck in an hour long traffic jam, we carried a fear of terror attacks while going through our favorite market places. Adding upon it was the heat of the summer which was making us loose our temper again and again.
Ms Deni contradicts and says it could have been a matter of chance. Now Mr. Bang starts clapping and jumping and exclaims that all the things in Delhi were falling out of place again and again.
Ms Deni was left lost with words and Oops, the driver blew the horn and I had reached my bus spot and Mr. Bang became the winner of the day.

Bangalore Rocks :)
I HATE bangi.....d city is full of shitt
Not like that...I'm a IT student...same goes for me. By the time I graduate, I'll either be placed in Delhi/NCR, Bengaluru or Hyd or Chennai....but the basic question remain unanswered...
I've been to Bangalore thrice...and stayed about 2 months each time in Indra Nagar near CMH hospital...really awesome weather there. People are good too. At least didn't get my pocket picked up at Brigade Road as compared to Lajpat Nagar afternoon rush in Delhi.
But Delhi...I must say...feels more apna I don't mean I felt like an alien in Bangy...but it is...kind of...
SO I'm really confused...I wanna be in Bangalore as an IT professional but Delhi, as I've spent my engineering career here....I must say I've fell in love with it
Saddi Dilli...I LOVE IT
But Namma Bengaluru...I LOVE IT Too
bengaluru is great.....& it will be
delhi people have to be more professional
Read the blog today and liked it. Bangalore is way ahead of traffic sense. I m from delhi wrked in banaglore for 2 yrs and came back to delhi (gotta job in grgn ) but commuting , people , jams , ego n attitude of people here towards life n others SUCKS!!! Wanna Go back to banaglore but again Ms.Deni wons everytime by saying parents and responsibilities.
Btw Liked the blog so much n i wish MrBang wins in my case .
Talking about parents, I think the best way would be to ask them Delhi or Bangalore, I am sure they'll say wherever we get success.. Do what your parents, your mind & your heart says, Most of the time these 3 would have different opinions, DO a best of 3 & you'll get the answer..
I've worked with people in Bangalore, they're nice, Bangalore's culture comprise of people who are Kannadigas and native Bangaloreans, Tamilians, Malyalis (South Indians) & the rest of india (including North Indians) - work in bangalore if you can adapt a little bit with their culture - the culture their is more indian/traditional than the culture in Delhi, if you act like a typical delhi-ite in Bangalore it won't work and you'll always yearn to be back in your nest & the same goes for Bangaloreans in Delhi (Not sure if there are many).. I am a typical Delhi-ite, I love Delhi, my punjabi culture, food, my language.. I also know that you'll find dumb a$$@$ everywhere be it Delhi or Bangalore.
It's the situations in life that decide what we want to do & where, we just need to go with the flow - Again, use the best of 3 option - All the best!!
South indians .... They do partiality between people .... Language problems and last but not the least loot at the infrastructure of delhi before comparing with banglore ... Talking about IT den , I think u must first look the cities like gurgaon , noida , greater noida. And delhi too ...!! Then speak about IT
Beautiful cities surrounds the norh india , chandigarh ,shimla , uttranchal , JK. And many more ... And the north indian punjabi food too ... Which cannot get in atleast in south ,,,, and the metro , !!!
Hi,
It's been 2 years for me in bangalore. desperate to go back to Delhi even on a compromised job. Bangloreans are nice but are unfriendly and have no warmth. I visited 50+ residences and offices. Hardly anyone would have offered you tea. Even they lack aspirations. No aggression. Thande hai sab. Festivities only means pooja. No celebration.
Delhi is Delhi
Rajul
please give comparison with reference to the job and the companies in banglore or delhi.
I am living in jaipur for the last 3 years, basically I am from Nainital.
Now I am planning to relocate to some other I.T city. but confused what to choose among bangalore,Delhi ncr and pune(or we can say just bangalore and Pune I don't like delhi because its not safe.My friends are in banglore they told me about awesome weather in banglore but being North Indian I can't live with Idli and Dosa(Ocassionaly its ok but not always). The traffic also Sucks in banglore. I don't know much about Pune. So please suggest me what to choose.
Hi Saloni,
Very well written. I am staying in Bangalore from last 12 years and every word in your blog reflects the exact thoughts which runs in my mind every day. One day its Delhi and the other day its Bangalore :)
Thanks for letting me know that I am not the only confused guy out in this world. Lets see who wins in my case ;)
Read your blog after I spoke to somebody who was posted in Delhi for 15 yrs and commented a few things. I am a Delhi - ite but I always was neutral towards Bangalore, I stayed here earlier for 3 yrs, and then left just cuz I was not able to deal with the traffic and people's attitude of 'swar swalpa adjust Maadi' I got some civic work done around my area fighting with BBMP and with help of TOI, but I didn't see that coming from people of Bangalore, they were okay living with the bad civic condition. The weather things never bothered me much, its a good thing for sure about Bangalore your electricity bill is way low due to the weather as compared to Delhi, but summer never bothered me as my house is AC, my car, my office I hardly get out in Delhi heat. Regarding eve teasing and letching I disagree with people, you have to consider lot of things lot of my friends who are girls and girlfriend have been teased or letched in Bangalore so these kind of people are everywhere. DELHI is a bigger city in terms of number of people that migrate so things like these happen more, also Bangalore shuts at 11 pm automatically making it safer also you do not have areas like NCR around Bangalore, smaller towns that just became big major reason of crime increase in Delhi. I am not defending Delhi, I am just saying Bangalore is good but people should become more demanding and aggressive. Their can be a lot more points but its about investing reasons why a city is way it is. Its a not about war between cities, it is more about what we can borrow from one another to make living better.
Good points going on...As a south-indian-delhi-ite-living in a unsecured area In dilli, I would say that
Delhi is friendly as everyone is historically an outsider-who-wants-to-be-open-to-the-world.Everybody here are in some or the other way are backed up by somebody. In a place I live Fights in a day are casual. But keeping negative facts end delhi makes you fall in love with it.
Bangalore,a place mentioned as silicon valley of asia by bill-Nothing is free-gates.I am in 12 grader with comm+ip .Thinking, then confusing with choicing between these two states, asked my parents, relatives a lot of it-guys of wazirpur. They say delhi is no good to compare with Bangalore in terms of IT.Its rudeness and attitude comes just like when a human and a snake run into each other, snake which gets angry-with-the-fact-it-is-also-scared of the human and human is scared because he new to snakes. But snakes are good,yeah...they are just occupied in their world that's they feel awkward which will rub off with time and openness.
As a explorer-who-doesn't-explore,Bangalore is big and new.But I will take chances as I feel love can be found anywhere(not talking about girls wholly).
Really amazing information of gate coaching plus your blog designing additionally amazing I'm hoping you're offering nice data. Many individuals such as wan acquire higher knowledge in addition to very long finding excellent teachers lean you must become a member of this series such as gate coaching, ies coaching, psus coaching; I am glad on your data.
I am just more confused !
The Bangalore traffic does not purely result on bad infrastructure. It is also based on exploding number if immigrants from other corners if India for employment in IT sectors. This also includes immigrants from north India. :-)
